The season begins with a concert featuring the wind in an early but characteristic work by Strauss together with one of the most well-known works for strings. The concert opens with one of Weber’s most rousing overtures and concludes with, arguably, Dvořák’s finest symphony.

We welcome one of the most promising pianists of his generation in Beethoven’s heroic ‘Emperor’ piano concerto. This all-Beethoven concert also includes the composer’s most lyrical symphony and begins with the dramatic overture, Coriolan.

Concert for Youth with Martin Clunes (Narrator)

The orchestra’s annual afternoon concert is popular with people of all ages. This season it features a wide range of familiar favourites. Once again we shall be joined by Martin Clunes and a local, young, soloist.

The final concert of the season features the winner of the BBC Young Musician, Woodwind category, Rob Burton. Rob will perform a major work by local composer, Rick Birley as well as the popular Scaramouche by French composer, Milhaud. 

The concert and season concludes with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent 5th Symphony.
